Purpose of Initiative
At MoXie Way, Inc., we embrace community engagement as an ever-evolving journey—a sacred continuum of collective involvement. Our commitment to working in harmony with other organizations and individuals who share our vision of a better world is not just a strategy but a profound necessity. In our quest to uplift the community, we extend our hands and hearts to those actively engaged in the pursuit of solutions that serve the wellbeing of all people.
THE WHY
The MoXie Way Community Engagement Initiative is a beacon of hope and transformation. It is a clarion call to bring forth social engagement, enrichment, and the profound shifts—both environmental and behavioral—that will nurture the health and elevate the mental wealth of our youth and families. This is more than a program; it is a movement toward a more loving and just world.
ONGOING COMMUNITY ENGAGMENT EVENTS & PROGRAMS
Community Partner: Building Better Lives, Inc.
Since October 2021, our biannual Hooked 901 Fishing Rodeo has been reeling in families from across the 901 for an unforgettable outdoor adventure! Partnering with Building Better Lives, Inc., this event is a key part of our Community Engagement Initiative, bringing families together for bonding, relaxation, and self-reliance—all while raising awareness about the joys of fishing. Each rodeo strengthens our mission to empower youth and families through positive, hands-on experiences that foster growth and connection. A special thanks to Bass Pro Shops at The Pyramid for their support through the Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, helping make this event possible. Together, we’re casting a net of opportunity for the community!
Community Partner: Memphis Grizzlies Prep Charter School
The new cheerleading program, part of MoXie Way Inc.'s Community Engagement Initiative, is a collaboration with Grizzlies Prep to bring spirit and energy to their basketball games. Led by Marissa Williamson (Chief executive Director of Moxie Way and Mindfulness & Wellness Teacher at G-Prep), the program empowers 6th-8th grade girls to build confidence, teamwork, and coordination. With the support of Green Law and MAAM Community Centers for practice space, and our community partners for transportation to games, ten participants will showcase the grit and grind culture of Grizzlies Prep. We thank our community supporters for making this initiative possible as it catapults toward the all-girls Grizzlies Prep school, launching next year.
Community Partner: Red Door Urban Missions, Inc.
Our Black Excellence Series Power Hour is all about inspiring our youth and showing them new opportunities through the powerful stories of Black women and men within our community. This monthly event, in partnership with Red Door Urban Missions, highlights the achievements and success stories that reflect the change we can aspire to be. Through the voices of our keynote speakers, we’re not just celebrating their journeys—we’re giving our youth the chance to aspire to all they can be by tapping into their inner MoXie. It’s about empowering them to realize their potential, build a brighter future, and become leaders in the transformation our community needs.
Community Partner: Memphis Delta Preparatory Charter School
MoXie Way is proud to partner with Memphis Delta Preparatory Charter School (MDP) to deliver our Fun & Games community engagement program, aimed at enhancing the social-emotional and physical development of elementary students. Since our partnership began, we’ve provided their summer school students with enriching, creative outdoor (and sometimes indoor) activities that promote collaboration, critical thinking, and fun!
Impact: Through our ongoing collaboration with MDP, MoXie Way is able to directly support over 100 students with interactive, educational activities. Our MoXie Mini Ambassadors, volunteers from Grizzlies Prep Cheerleaders, and local college students help lead these activities, leaving lasting positive impressions on the students they work with. Whether it’s leading fitness challenges or creative games, the students consistently engage and grow under the leadership of our team.
